Although modern projects attract investors, there are still many lovers of classic and manor houses. Does a minimalist fence suit this type of architecture?

It has been assumed that the choice of a fence should be dictated by the architectural style of the house. It is also worth paying attention to the surroundings. Correspondence with the neighbouring architecture and land development allows you to maintain the consistency of buildings in the area. It also happens that certain elements present in the houses in the area are imposed by the building conditions.

If our house refers to the classic style, the rule says that the fence, entrance gate and wicket must also have a classic look. Annexes and pillars made of stone or brick, posts finished with tiles, metal forged spans with decorative motifs, slightly stylized. What if we own a traditional home but like a minimalist fence? Does it fit classic and manor houses or is it reserved only for modern construction?

A minimalist fence, what is it?

A modern, minimalist fence is primarily characterised by simplicity. Geometric shapes, economical form and good quality solid material. If investors choose walls and pillars, they are made of stone in natural shades of grey or raw concrete. Straight, vertical or horizontal spans, without ornaments, made of steel or aluminium, finished in grey, black, and sometimes - white. In some projects we also find a combination of the aforementioned materials - steel and stone with wood, especially if the wooden elements are also elements of the facade of the house.

Classic buildings and manor architecture

The classic style draws from traditional patterns. A sloping roof is one of the basic features of classic buildings. Also characteristic are: red roofing, light facade paint, standard size window joinery. Columns, round or semicircular windows, also frames with muntins - these are details that refer to the manor house architecture.

Classic meets minimalism – yes or no?

Can classic architecture go hand in hand with a minimalist fence? Yes. However, the use of such a connection requires a certain amount of feel. If the house has a classic shape, a gable roof, but modern colours and a roof covering, for example, made of dark grey steel sheet for standing seams, we have a lot of freedom in the selection of the fence and we can choose both vertical and horizontal spans. However, if the house has a decidedly traditional look or corresponds to the manor house style, choose a fence that will not compete with the vertical arrangement of the facade details. A minimalist fence should be as subtle as possible and inconspicuous - neither in form nor in colour - but rather blend in with the surroundings. Let's choose the simplest forms, with vertical spans, and if we decide on posts or walls - then plan a material and colour that will correspond to the building finishing materials.
